79kWp of Solar PV panels coupled with 265kWh of battery energy storage across 4 units
Marcoe Renewables designed and installed a 79kWp solar PV and 265kWh battery storage system at Simmtronic’s headquarters in Hoddesdon. The project featured four independent solar PV and battery energy storage systems, each serving a separate building unit while operating under one roof and a central monitoring platform.
A key requirement was maintaining power to critical business services during a mains failure. To achieve this, Marcoe developed a bespoke battery control strategy for each unit, with Units 2 and 4 maintaining a dedicated battery reserve for essential loads including servers and production equipment.
Each system incorporates a 20kW three-phase SolaX hybrid inverter, high-voltage LFP battery storage and a custom-designed EPS island mode function. During a grid outage, critical loads are automatically transferred to battery and solar power via a bespoke interlocked switching arrangement with seamless restoration when grid power returns.
The installation also integrates directly with Simmtronic’s digital twin platform, providing real-time visibility of generation, storage and energy consumption across all four systems. The installation now enables Simmtronic to generate, store and manage around 55% of its energy requirements on-site, reducing grid reliance and enhancing resilience for critical business operations.
